Know Your Neighbor FAQ

1. What is “Know Your Neighbor”?

Chick-fil-A’s Know Your Neighbor (KYN) program is designed to bring neighbors together in order to help build connections with each other. Our desire is to have a positive impact on our communities, both inside and outside the walls of our restaurants. We believe that we are better together…and nothing brings people together like sharing a meal.

2. If I host a KYN event, what does Chick-fil-A provide?

  • Up to 50 complimentary Chick-fil-A®Chicken Sandwiches
  • Up to 50 KYN name tag stickers
  • Up to 25 KYN refrigerator magnets (one per household) on which guests can write their neighbors’ information. These can serve as useful tools to help remember names and strengthen connections beyond the event.

3. If I host a KYN event, what is required of me?

Pre-event

  • You must have a designated co-host, so find a neighbor to assist you. (As a bonus, it makes the event more fun for you and your neighbors.)
  • Submit an Event Request Form: return to our homepage, select your neighborhood Chick-fil-A location and complete the form. A restaurant representative will contact you to discuss details and answer any questions.
  • Choose an outdoor location for your event, such as your front yard/driveway, cul-de-sac common area, etc.
  • Invite your neighbors (see Question 4)
  • Plan any desired activities (see Question 5)
  • Plan any additional food or drink needed (see Question 6)

Event

  • Provide tables, chairs, serving/clean-up items, paper goods, etc. or ask your neighbors to help
  • Pick up the food from the restaurant
  • Fill out a name tag for each guest
  • Distribute one KYN magnet to each household (have pens available for neighbors to write on their magnets)
  • Take event photos

Post-event

  • Return sandwich warming bag to the restaurant the following business day
  • Email event photos, stories and/or feedback to the restaurant representative

4. How do I invite my neighbors?

Print the customizable invitation provided by your restaurant representative, then mail or hand-deliver to your neighbors.

5. What are some ideas for making my event successful and fun?

  • Try a creative icebreaker activity, or plan games such as Bingo, trivia questions, etc.
  • If small children are attending, consider having simple items such as sidewalk chalk or an easy craft available.

6. Can I purchase additional menu items for my event?

Yes! You can order additional items when a restaurant representative contacts you to confirm your event. Great pairings include our gallons of freshly brewed iced tea or lemonade, Chick-fil-A Waffle Potato Chips, and/or individually packaged desserts.

7. Will Chick-fil-A employees attend my event, bring the Chick-fil-A Cow, or deliver the sandwiches?

These options may vary by restaurant. The restaurant representative can provide additional information.

8. I live in an apartment building. Can I host a KYN event there?

As far as the KYN program is concerned, yes. Any public gathering space at your apartment complex should work, but it’s best to check with your apartment management for specific instructions and any rules/regulations.

9. What if I need to cancel my event (changed my mind, low response from neighbors, etc.)?

We understand that plans don’t always unfold as we envisioned. For cancellations, please email your restaurant representative within 24 hours of your event. If you’d like to reschedule, they can work with you to find another date.

10. In the event of inclement weather, can I reschedule my event?

Absolutely. Please email your restaurant representative within 24 hours of your event, if the forecast looks unfavorable. They can work with you to find another date.

11. Can we keep it simple and offer “come-and-go” sandwich distribution at our event?

KYN encourages neighbors to come together around a meal to get to know one another. Since a “come and go” sandwich distribution does not follow the guidelines and purpose of the program, we do not recommend this style of event.

12. Food Safety Tips

A Know Your Neighbor event begins with learning the names of your neighbors. Overtime, a sense of community and trust are established. Building trust is an important element in creating safe environments. One way you can initially build trust is by prioritizing the health and safety of your neighbors. As such, we offer a few safety tips to consider:

  • Hand washing with soap and warm water is essential when eating, handling, or serving food. For extra safety, add hand sanitizer after thoroughly washing hands.
  • For the best quality food:
    • Always use utensils or gloves when handling or serving cooked products.
    • Serve product immediately or hold hot at least 140 degrees F
  • Quickly refrigerate any leftover food products
  • When possible, provide individual, pre-packaged servings.

Research and comply with local, state and federal food safety and social responsibility regulations.
